Maggies recognises that in the industry that we are in there are a number
of things we do that impact on our environment today. Because of this
we aim to run our business with this at the forefront of our mind and
ensure that we do everything possible to help and not destroy our environment.
We will continue to provide the high quality service to our customers
and while doing so we hope to help prevent any further pollution to our
environment. We intend to do this by maintaining an environmentally acceptable
performance by complying with all relevant environmental regulations,
laws and codes of practice but also to constantly strive for improvement.
We will achieve this by:
- promoting environmental awareness among our employees and encouraging
them to work in an environmentally responsible manner;
- reducing waste through recycling and purchasing recycled, recyclable
products and materials where these alternatives are available, economical
and suitable;
- ensuring that all waste is disposed of in a safe and responsible manner;
- promoting efficient use of materials and resources throughout our business
including water, electricity and other resources, particularly those that
are non-renewable;
- seeking to purchase environmentally sound goods (organic, fairly traded)
from local suppliers and wherever possible in season;
- Conservation of natural resources by adopting waste prevention practices
such as extending the life of equipment through preventive maintenance
scheduling and recycling of used equipment;
- providing a workplace free of recognised hazards and maintain healthy
working conditions for all company employees;
- Continually improving our environmental performance by periodically
reviewing our operation in order to identify any environmental issues;
- Communicating our environmental commitment to our staff, customers,
clients and the general public and encouraging them to support it.
We have implemented a number of changes that reduce the creation of general
waste and enable more environmentally friendly disposal options. Wherever
possible we separate cardboard, glass bottles and aluminium cans by providing
bins designated for recyclable waste. We work in conjunction with EKKO
systems with their innovative recycling scheme where we have a glass crusher
on site and crush every single bottle that is sold in the business, these
are then recycled in a number of things such as sand, paint, thermal insulation.
We don't stop there we also work in conjunction with shanks collections
whose main priority is protecting the environment, with them we separate
our general waste and food waste by doing this it allows for the waste
to be treated properly and reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill.
Our food waste is taken away, treated and recycled into a range of quality
assured products such as compost and renewable electricity and fuel.
At Maggie Mays our intention is to provide a safe and healthy workplace,
conserving as much energy and natural resources as possible. By publishing
this policy we recognise our responsibility towards the protection of
the environment and issue a commitment of both management and employees
to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. All values included
in this statement will be emphasised through all levels of responsibility
within the company.
